The components of an Employee Assistance Program vary depending on the nature of services and employer desires to offer. Some of the standard requests are:

 

Employee Education

 

Workshops and seminars provided on topics that encourage personal problem solving. These can include stress management, family issues, substance abuse, resolving conflict, etc.

 

Manager / Supervisor Consultation

 

Individual consultation with supervisors and managers concerning specific problem employees.

 

Confidential Counseling Services

 

• Crisis Intervention
• Short Term Counseling
• Referral Services
• Case Management

Why Have an EAP?

Troubled employees cost industry two billion in lowered productivity. Personal problems affect 25% of the work force annually. For every $1 employers spend on an EAP they can expect to save $3 to $15 that might otherwise be lost due to low productivity.

 

Discipline

 

65% of all terminations are the result of personal problems.

 

Stress

 

Stress is involved in 85% of accidents at work.

 

 

 

How Does an EAP Work for Employees?

 

Your EAP provides assessment counseling and referral for employees and their families, linking them with appropriate resources. All of this is confidential.

 

Identification

 

Self: An employee or member recognizes the need for help.

Supervisor: Utilizing one of the most effective management tools available, trained supervisors assist employees to recognize the need for help.

Peer: Co-workers aware of the value of the EAP, suggest to peer that they seek help.

 

Assessment

 

The employee or family member meets with a trained EAP professional for an assessment of the problem. All assessments are confidential. Recommendations are presented to the individual or family.

 

Case Management

 

EAP staff refers the individual to appropriate resources. Follow-up is conducted by the staff to ensure the appropriateness and effectiveness of the referral.

Staff


The staff includes marriage, family and child counselors, and master's level interns.

 

Hours and Location


Business office hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Appointments can be made during this time by phone or in person. Evening hours available. HFSC is located at 1802 California Street, Eureka. The phone number is 443-7358. Also offices in Arcata.
